What on earth was it doing there?

July 4, 2009

There’s a smallish public garden near Hotel Lutetia, Boulevard Raspail. Just a few trees, a few benches and a statue of French writer, François Mauriac, which I once photographed with lipstick.
That day, when I passed by, I caught sight of this man’s shoe sitting there among those feminine legs.
Weird sight!

For an explanation, look for a hopping man ;)

But more seriously, in London too, I often see items of clothing and odd shoes lying about. In some cases, these may have fallen out of people’s bags or out of cars but I think in many instances it is the result of people who go through rubbish looking for useful items. These people usually empty the bags and bins and don’t put the stuff back. Anything they don’t want is left lying about and gets kicked around and perhaps played with by kids, ending up in odd places.

    Well, it’s a theory…

There are lots of things on the pavement in Paris as well, to be sure. It was just the proximity of all those women’s legs that made it seem strange…

Maybe the guy was very shy and when all those lovely ladies sat down he beat a hasty retreat and jumped right out of one shoe. ;-)

Darlene, then as Tiger said, maybe I SHOULD have looked for a hopping man!

Absolutely love it! It does make you wonder, doesn’t it?

It looks very odd there. I think if I were one of those women, I would have placed it under the bench.

I would say it is the shoe of a past lover, who used to say disparaging comments about the woman’s circle of friends. It is a poetic note saying they are alive and well, and he is just a discarded shoe of the past.
