Posing

I took such an amount of photos in India that I think I'll never be able to sort them out.
I am slowly reposting in 23, my new photo site the ones that I posted in flickr earlier. But it's a task that takes forever!

At the beginning of the trip, I was still shy about asking people if I could take a photo of them. This lady was actually posing for someone else and I found her smile, her sari, and the casual gesture to hold it in place absolutely irresistible.
Later, I just showed my camera, in a questioning manner and waited for people to nod or refuse.

    • Thanks for visiting the blog ;) I always wanted to go to India, but would have much preferred go on my own rather than with a group. Still, it was worth seeing. And people are so welcoming!

  1. india or china, india or china???? hard to decide which one to visit. i admit your photos have humanized india greatly for me. and my friend lida, who turns 90 in two months, had just come back from india RAVING about it when we first met. she was my age now (73) then. never too late, but i’d better hustle….

    • Never too late as long as you are in good shape AND choose the right season to go. Never been to China though.

  2. That reminds me of a walking trip to Iceland. It was in pre-digital days and I had two cameras, one with a normal daylight film and the other with a fast film for low-light conditions. Back in London I literally had stacks of prints and negatives to catalogue and the work seemed interminable. I got perhaps half-way through before boredom and fatigue stopped me. I put everything into a box for “later”. That “later” never came.

I now try to catalogue every day’s (digital) photos on the day, even if it means staying up late. I now have a geotagger and this helps locate the photos when memory lets me down (a frequent occurrence!).

I went to India and Nepal years ago but those photos have been lost along with the Iceland ones so the only vestiges of that trip are slowly fading memories…
