From the XVIIth century to yesterday, not much has changed in the gardens at Vaux-le-Vicomte. This photo was taken from the top of the castle and when we looked at old prints representing the gardens, they looked pretty much the same. Personally, I am keener on English gardens but I have to admit that Vaux-le-Vicomte is a masterpiece in its own way.

I really enjoy your photographs. It’s like taking a tour from my chair. The statue of Hercules really captures the power he embodied.
The grounds of the castle are beautiful; especially the reflection of the castle in a lake. But I can’t help but think how many gardeners it must take to keep the gardens and lawns in such immaculate shape. It does show the contrast of the wealth of the original owners while the peasants starved.
I assume a foundation or the state owns this building now. I doubt that there are many private owners who could afford the upkeep on such a lavish place.
Lovely. Brings back happy memories of French garden visits.
You bring a smile to me every time you post your glorious photos!!!
