Berliner Dom : looking up

It’s never very easy to photograph a church, particularly one with a cupola.
It’s been almost a year since I was in Berlin and I haven’t found the time to post some of the photos I took there. And yet, it’s a fascinating city.
On our first day, we visited the impressive cathedral

Dogon, mother and child

I may be a total stranger to Dogon culture, and be unable to understand much of it, there are still images that “talk” to me.
Is this very different from our Virgin and child paintings or sculptures?

Seen at Musée du Quai Branly yesterday.

Le Louvre, Cour de Marly

I sat there for quite a while yesterday, reading. Amazingly, it was very quiet and cool, as I was sitting next to the air conditioning.
You can’t beat the view, really and after a long walk, visiting some of the XVIIth century painting rooms, it was really pleasant to get some rest.

Detail of a suit of armour

Yesterday, I visited an amazing exhibit at Invalides, where they gathered suits of armours belonging to the Princes of Europe in the XVIth century.
Incredible pieces of art and workmanship.

Happy May Day

I was given this lovely Lily of the Valley, following the French tradition.
Lily of the Valley is said to bring luck and happiness when offered on May 1st

Budding!

As we are enjoying incredibly warm weather for April, my friend Monceau suggested a visit to Parc Floral, which was a grand idea as the rhodoendrons and tulips were just gorgeous!
A few hours later and this would have been quite a different photo.

Cheeky mascaron

You think you’ve seen every possible kind of mascaron, those strange heads watching above doors and windows.
I don’t think I had seen one like that, sticking his tongue out at you!
